What is the historical background of your fire project issue? When, where, why did it start?
In ancient Athens, a person who committed suicide without the approval of the state was denied the honours of a normal burial. The person would be buried alone, on the outskirts of the city, without a headstone or marker. The person committing suicide had so much to think about because if he or she killed itself they wouldn’t be buried like the rest would normally have. However, it was deemed to be an acceptable method to deal with military defeat. In Ancient Rome, while suicide was initially permitted, it was later deemed a crime against the state due to the econmic costs. Referring that a person's death costs a lot, the usual but with the exception that the people wouldn't have been buried either because of costs.
What was it like to be alive during this time period?
I'm sure those who tried putting their lives at risk will be willing to do it again. Its all in their heads at the end of the day. It may seem to go without saying that suicides tend to be preceded by a period of negative emotions, but, again, in Baumeister’s escape model, negative suicidal emotions are experienced as an acute state rather than a prolonged one. So the suicidal people as we may call them, actually have all sorts of emotions within one emotion called, anxiety. Which can be experienced as guilt, self-blame, threat of social exclusion, ostracism and worry—seems to be a common strand in the majority of suicides. All these feeling in one emotion. They are the major problem for a suicide, once you start getting anxiety there's no one that can take you out of it but yourself. It takes time and effort to do so.
