Suicide is not just seen in your town, suicide occurs everywhere and to anyone; no matter your ethnicity or how wealthy you are. Suicide is seen nationally in the United States because according to the CDC “there is one death by suicide in the US every 12.3 minutes.” Suicide occurs anywhere and at any time. Suicide is done by those who feel like there is no other way out; usually suicide is not seen among elderly but it is most likely to occur when they are “widowed.” (SMH) Also, suicide is a problem with the younger ages, “suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year old Americans.” (CDC). The formal operational age is the stage that applies to the ages 11-adulthood, so the people who commit the most suicide are in this last stage of Piaget's theory and it implies that abstract thinking now is able to take place. It is more common for people in this stage to be able to commit suicide because they start growing up and realizing life is not as easy at is has always been. They begin to grow up and see that society determines how we look and if you don’t meet their standards than you’re considered abnormal.
The United States is working by making more places available in order to help those in need. They don’t pay as much attention to suicide as they do to other diseases, according to an online article it states that, “The National Institutes of Health — the largest source of research money — spends a small fraction of suicide compared with diseases such as breast and prostate cancer that result in as many or fewer American lives lost.” This means the money goes out to other factors that also cause death but not as much deaths that suicide does. It also states that, “The suicide research budget for the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has actually been shrinking since 2011.” This shows how they don’t focus much on how beneficial money towards suicide would help, but they rather decrease the amount of money going out for it. Suicide is also very common in our army people, “The Army suicide rate tripled from 2004 and 2012 as more than 2,000 GIs took their lives.” This implies that once they come back from war they are not just physically devastated but also mentally. The mind of the human is the most dangerous weapon because once it is messed with, it can destroy your entire life.
