8. Describe your own and others’ reactions before, during, and after each violation.
I did not do the violation, but Stephanie did. I helped her out on what to post online, and also what to reply to those who would message her. My violation changed, we ended up just putting depressive statuses up and see who would reach out to see if stephanie was alright. She said she was actually feeling depressed from just acting, also she said it felt good to see how people would reach out to you.
9. How did the reactions compare to what you had anticipated?
We thought family and close friends would be the ones to reach out to her the most, but it was people she really didn't have much contact too that would be the first ones to message her to see if she was alright. A guy she never really talked too was the only one who bothered to message her everyday after every status just to make sure she was okay.
10. Note any differences between the groups’ reactions and discuss possible reasons for them.
Esteban V. (junior) and Aaron G. (senior) were pretty upset about her posts because they thought she was being serious. They just messaged her but no one really put it public, and people were pretty supportive after she put the status where she explained that it was all a project.
11. Why does the norm you choose to violate exist? What would happen if it didn’t exist? Would the results be good or bad?
We chose that norm to violent because we wanted to see who would take the time to check up on someone who is putting depressive status, and if it would be only family and close friends the one to check up. If it did not exist, then a person who truly needs help would never get it because sometimes a person who is depressed needs to be heard and helped out through a series of proper steps.
12. Did your experience stimulate any other questions? How would you test those question?
Why was it that family and close friends were the least to reach out? I would test this question by doing another media activism and if they don't reach out again, call them out and ask them why did they not reach out.

13. Look up the “spotlight effect” (not the kind that relates to photography or Photoshop). Define it (in your own words) and describe how it relates to your experience.
The actual definition is “The spotlight effect is the phenomenon in which people tend to believe they are noticed more than they really are. Being that one is constantly in the center of one's own world, an accurate evaluation of how much one is noticed by others has shown to be uncommon.” The spotlight effect is how people believe they are noticed a lot more than they really are. It relates to my experience because Steph was just waiting anxiously after she would put up a status to see who would message her.
14. What did this exercise teach you about the social justice activism as a method for changing the world?
It teached me that we need to be advocates to others and to always be a helping hand. Sometimes people need help or just simply someone to hear them, so be that person.
15. Some people regularly choose to break social norms and act as social justice activists. Name 2-3 famous people who you consider to be social justice activists. Why do you think some people choose to be social justice activists?
Beyonce would be a social justice activist because she is fighting for equal rights for everyone, and showing why black is truly beautiful. Chance the Rapper is another social justice activist because he has been helping Chicago due to all its homicides and gang violence, he also raised “60,000 dollars” for Chicago’s homeless. Both of these artist are fighting to restore faith in humanity again.
Psychology and Social Justice
Psychology can be used positively to change the world because with psychology you understand why people do the things they do. People do not just go kill themselves for no reason; there is cognitive issues. Conscious and unconscious factors that play a role into why they do the things that they do. Psychology is the explanation that is needed for those who are unaware of how powerful the mind is. The mind has the ability to destroy you or benefit you. You are essentially controlled by it because once it takes over you, you no longer have the strength to defeat it without professional help.Without psychology we wouldn't be able to understand why you see those figures that don't exist, why you hear those little voices talking to you, why you act the way you do, etc. The mind’s capacity to achieve things is overwhelming, does not matter if it's positive or negative. I can achieve my vision of social justice through psychology because people just judge those who commit suicide without knowing the real reasons behind why they do it. Psychology can acknowledge the cognitive reasons on why people commit suicide. It may be that they are in the state of post-traumatic stress, major depression, schizophrenia, or any other mental disorder.
Psychological Concepts that are Root Causes, Symptoms, and/or Problems of Suicide
Major Depression Disorder is a root cause of suicide. People with MDD may experience “Mood: anxiety, apathy, general discontent, guilt, hopelessness, inability to feel pleasure, loss of interest, mood swings, or sadness
Sleep: early awakening, excess sleepiness, insomnia, or restless sleep
Whole body: excessive hunger, fatigue, loss of appetite, or restlessness
Behavioral: agitation, excessive crying, irritability, or social isolation
Cognitive: lack of concentration, slowness in activity and thought, or thoughts of suicide
Weight: weight gain or weight loss.” MDD is chemical imbalances that causes people to act as if they were outcasts and do things that “normal people” would not do. Ages that are affected the most are ages 14-60+. The older one gets, the more common major depression gets. There is more than “ 3 million US cases per year.”

There is also a gene that connects to activity in the brain that causes suicidal behavior. According to Treating the Root Causes of Suicide, it states that “ The researchers found that a connection between a variant of a gene called RGS2—which is involved in the activity of certain brain chemical receptors—and suicidal behavior.” This shows that the genes we posses relate to the actions we do. The thyroid gland also plays role in why people feel sad or depressed. It says in the same online article that, “When the thyroid gland becomes sluggish, it can trigger a number of symptoms, including depression.” When someone feels depressed, there is a bigger chance they will commit suicide.
Psychological Concepts that Help Alleviate, Reduce, and/or Solve the Problem
Suicide is mainly caused by depression and depression can be treated with “talk therapy with a trained psychologist or psychiatrist. Medications (for example citalopram and paroxetine) that act on the chemical imbalance in the brain are also useful treatments for major depression.” These treatments involve medications to help with the chemical imbalances and also the use of a professional that will allow them to talk about their problems and alleviate their minds.
Field of Psychology
The field of psychology is important to humanity because without it people who are “not normal” would be seen as monsters just like they would be seen in the past. In the past those who acted strange due to mental illnesses would be treated as an outcast to society and essentially be killed because they were afraid of them. Psychology has allowed for different perspectives to take place and explain the reason for people's’ action. The DSM-5 is the classification tool that allows people to know what illness they have and how to be able to treat it. The DSM-5 is “The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition is the 2013 update to the American Psychiatric Association's classification and diagnostic tool.” This system of classification has been updated so people are more aware of what it is that they have. Psychology has helped bring those who are “abnormal” back into society and help them get back into their daily life. Psychology has allowed to find alternatives to help those
Major Takeaways From AP Psychology
The major takeaways I took from AP Psychology was to understand why people do the things they do. Sometimes those who do such awful acts is because they have a severe mental disorder, but they never say that. No, i'm not trying to justify their cations, but that person was not fully himself/herself when they did the actions that they did. AP Psychology has allowed me to take a deeper look into people's minds, actions, and reasons on why they do the certain things that they do. It has also allowed me to learn more about the brain that I did not know of before. For example, I did not know of the Frontal lobe, Temporal lobe, Parietal lobe, or the Occipital lobe nor their actions. Without taking this course I would not have been able to understand why sometimes I act the way I do, and why people with disorders need the help and medication they do. I also took away that there are a lot of disorders out there that require a lot of help and medication to treat. Some disorders just need talk therapy, others need talk therapy and medication in order to get better.
