Stephanie's Intro
Introduction
Suicide is often looked as a selfish action taken without deliberate examination. In which people often misinterpret the issue. This is what has evoked such fire in this research. To be quite frank, I had initially envisioned conducting my project on a more “important” issue. In my eyes suicide did not occur to me as relevant issue to invest my time. As I began my research, I began to question two things. First, why was suicide one of the leading cause of death among teenagers? And secondly, was there enough mental health clinics that offer help, being that depression is the “most common underlying disorder”.
This issue has raised the most sincere of my interest. This is a problem that is circulating the youth of this country and it seems that people are indifferent to the subject. Not ever did I put much thought into the subject myself until it occurred to one of our fellow classmates. In the beginning, I had no initial reaction to the news, but not due to the unfamiliarity with the subject, simply because I had no emotional attachment to this student. As I proceed in this project I begin to comprehend the immense amount of significance this had. We often mislead ourselves with assertion that we will never be put in critical situations. This obstacle may have not affected me personally, but it did happen to person within my community. Which leads me to my next point, what are we doing to prevent it from happening to another one of our peers?
