National Context
Each year approximately “30,000 people die by suicide in the United States”. And even so, the rates vary across the country. Tennessee is the number one state with the highest rate with a “13.7 suicide per 100,000 people”. However, the city with the largest suicidal rates is Las Vegas with a “34.5 per 100,000 people”. Which appears fairly reasonable why the rates are so high. With the amount of temptation that “Sin City” offers, it can inferred that these rates are a result of overwhelming debt. This reveals where the priorities of some cities stand and where they should be shifted
Nevertheless, there are several efforts being made to address the issue. For example, in 1969 a “Call to Action to Prevent Suicide” was issued. Not only that, but many federal agencies have come together to find “strategies for prevention”. But this is not a finalized project, there are still research being made to minimize the amount of suicides within the country. Surely it is a slow process, but with time, effort, and willingness there will soon be a resolution to prevent suicide.
