“What does Social Justice mean to me” is a question that has circulated my mind over the course of my high school experience. As I began to think what this significant term means, I start to realize how fortunate I was to attend this school. Entering Social Justice that fall of 2012 has been by far the most prominent decision I’ve made. To be quite honest, I didn’t fully comprehend the meaning of Social Justice until my junior year. Injustice doesn’t only move around the rights for humans, but it concerns the injustice humans do to one another. I have concluded that injustice is far more obvious than we think, or even imagine. Therefore, Social Justice means to me the full understanding of cruelty and the willing to make a difference. We repeatedly encounter obstacles after obstacle to achieve Social Justice, which may seem ironic. How can we fight injustice when injustice is permanently there? And honestly there isn't a definite answer to this. Many will proclaim that “doing what's right” is a cliché thing in this time of age. However, there isn't a better solution to diminish corruption.
Furthermore, I personally believe that one of the main reason why inequality is a global issue, Isn’t due to the accusations of “racism”, but the lack of knowledge. Ignorance is a “Dangerous” concept as pastor Dr. King mentioned. My vision of struggle is the willingness to change a system, but having insufficient resources. The willing to start “fresh”, but constantly being reminded that we won't amount to nothing. The willing to break a stereotypical allegation and facing people who don't see beyond our skin color. When I envision struggle I see a reflection of my fellow classmates and I. I see the struggle of a neighborhood that is falling apart. And most importantly, I see the struggle our parents face guiding an uncivilized youth. My role in the struggle is to bury the assertions folks of the “superior” race labeled me with. To prove that even though I am a young Latina, I can still succeed.
